About me

I have always been wild about natural history... in fact for as long as I can remember it has been part of my life. Even though I grew up in SE London, I was always watching the birds that visited our garden or enjoying the wildlife in Greenwich Park.. one of my favourite haunts.

In 1996, I trained as a teacher, with environmental education as my specialism and I have taught in the primary sector ever since.
In 2001, I set up my own consultancy business, writing educational materials. My work is exciting and varied and I have worked for all sorts of organisations from butterfly parks, for industry, to a wonderful job working in the Natural History Museum, London, where I wrote their primary education guides for visiting school children. I have also worked as the education consultant for Simon King's Wildlife Whisperer website.

In November 2010, I started up my WildlifeKate venture and it has grown and developed at an astounding rate! It was the wildlife that visits my garden that inspired me to start my blog and then to create my www.wildlifekate.co.uk website. I have been delighted at how many people have followed my work and shown interest in what I am doing on 'my patch'. I know work for an increasing number of wildlife based companies, trialling and writing about their kit and helping them enhance with the learning potential of their products.
I hope the projects I do in my garden will inspire others to stop and think what they could do for wildlife in their gardens.

I still teach two days a week in a Warwickshire primary school and I feel my up-to-date teaching experience is fundamental to much of the consultancy work I undertake. I am passionate about teaching the new generation about the wonders of the natural world.
